If you are already a Divemaster or Assistant Instructor you can now take the all important step to becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor with a PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). Here’s how we help you prepare.

First we need to make sure you hold the minimum prerequisites to start your IDC training. Prerequisites:

• You will be at least 18 years old
• You will hold a PADI Divemaster or Assistant Instructor certification or equivalent certification with another dive agency
• You will be declared fit for diving by providing a PADI Medical Statement Form/Diving Medical Examination, signed by a doctor, within the last 12 months
• Be a certified diver for at least 6 months with at least 60 logged dives
• Hold a CPR / First Aid training certificate valid within the last 24 months
• Provide copies of open water, advanced, rescue and divemaster certificates
• To take the final IE (Instructor Examination), you must have at least 100 logged dives

Arrival: Then we need you to acclimatise to the environment, relax and get your bearings around the area and maybe take in a few fun dives. Ideally, we would recommend you to arrive at Pro-Tech Dive College at least 7 days before the start of your IDC to meet the team, settle in, ask questions, prepare your equipment or make equipment purchase decisions before your IDC starts.

Administration Preparation: Along with the PADI IDC application form, you will need to bring with you all your current dive certificates and CPR certificate as well as any additional medical reports you feel necessary. The application needs to have information regarding all past PADI courses. Please bring photocopies of any non-PADI certifications.

You will also need a valid credit card to pay your PADI fee’s as they do not accept cash. The diving medical certification is available in Phuket or in your home country but must be dated within the last 12 months. You will also need to bring your logbook with you with proof of 60 logged dives.

At the beginning of all IDC’s there is a preparation course covering Dive Theory as well as Skill and Rescue Assessments. Initially we review all your theoretical knowledge, identifying areas where you need to improve. We give presentations on these areas as well as practice exams.

We then take you into our swimming pool where we conduct skills circuits designed to improve your demonstrations to the quality expected by the PADI examiner’s on the IE. We also conduct Rescue assessments to ensure that your rescue skills are of an exemplary standard.
